IIUM runner-up in world debate meet

KUALA LUMPUR: International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has emerged runner-up in the English as a Second Language (ESL) category of the World Universities Debating Championship.

IIUM was represented by third-year students Khalidah Nazihah Abdul Jamin (economics and management sciences) and Meor Aliff Meor Azalan (political sciences).

According to an IIUM statement yesterday, Khalidah was also recognised as one of the top ESL speakers.

Tel Aviv University in Israel emerged champion of the world's largest debating tournament in the ESL category.

The championship saw the participation of 392 universities including Harvard, Yale, Monash, Oxford Union and Cambridge Union.

The 10-day competition was held at Koc University in Turkey and began on Dec 26.

  1. IIUM is well known for its debate team. Maybe you could join them in future? But as u can see those from the "arts" stream are usually more active in debate.
