Look, ma, I've been writing again!

Fandom: Suikoden I
Summary: Tir is amazed by the Master Robe; Chapman muses over some things; and Pahn thinks only of food.

---

In the point of view of:
Chapman

---

"So, can you tell me anything about this one?"

Chapman hummed thoughtfully before lifting up the robe from his counter. Master Tir had just got back from one of his travels, and this time around, he'd acquired a rather rare item.

"Looks real comfortable, that one," said Chandler appreciatively from his little stall next to Chapman's armory. Jabba and Jean were there to watch, too, each abandoning their stations temporarily to see what the matter was all about.

Chapman hummed again. "Mm. Yes, it's definitely got healing properties. Adds a brilliant line of defense once equipped, too," he said, running a hand through the material. "Where'd you get this from again, Master Tir?"

The ever-quiet young man calmly replied, "South-west of Warrior's Village, I believe. The Sorcerers dropped it."

"Ah, why didn't you say so earlier?" said Chapman, now grinning. "Yes. I believe I have an inkling of what this is. This, ladies and gents, is the Master Robe."

Chapman watched as the look of recognition flashed across the faces of some - like old Jabba, and Kai, and Jean - but others, like Pahn and Morgan, and Master Tir, simply looked puzzled.

"It's famous for its healing properties, and the Sorcerers have a lot of them in their possession," said Chapman. "But it could be difficult to attain. They rarely drop it in battle."

The armory expert watched as a small frown began to form on Master Tir's face. It was an admirable look, in Chapman's opinion: oftentimes, he'd see that expression on schoolchildren's faces whenever they're studying for their exams or when they're trying to answer their teacher's questions. But then, Chapman reminded himself that Master Tir was young enough to pass for a schoolchild. Master Tir was just a kid, and should be with his peers, laughing and marveling over their own cleverness - not doing this, fighting vampires and Sorcerers and carrying the weight of the whole Empire on his shoulders.

Sometimes it's just too easy to forget that the man leading the Liberation Army wasn't quite a man yet, and something, something within Chapman just ached at the thought of it. Tir McDohl was as young as one of Chapman's nephews, and yet he'd stood up against his own father, seen the deaths of his loved ones, fought dangerous battles, and would continue to fight even more battles after this.

How was it possible for one boy to do all this?

"Do you not have any suppliers for this robe?" Master Tir asked at length, bringing Chapman back to reality.

"I'm afraid not," said Chapman. "As I've mentioned before, this is an extremely rare item. Although...I have heard of rumours saying that these are available in Gregminster-"

Master Tir's eyes flashed with something that Chapman couldn't really identify as he heard the name of his hometown being spoken, and the armory expert hastened to finish his sentence.

"-But obviously we don't have access to that place now...and besides, it's only a rumour, sir."

Tir McDohl sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose as he thought about this. "Well, we need those robes, and God knows when we're ever going to get to Gregminster again..."

Just then, Master Tir's self-defense teacher, Kai, stepped forth and placed a hand on the younger man's shoulder. "We've had a long day, my boy," he said with such ease that only Kai was able to master, and Chapman could almost see the tension bleeding out of Tir's whole body. "You've already got one Master Robe in possession. Let's rest, sleep for a night, and continue searching for more tomorrow."

"I haven't heard of any news coming from the War Room," said Morgan, lifting his head a little as if trying to listen for anything that might be uttered at the moment in the War Room three floors above. Chapman hadn't really gotten the chance to get to know the new blind recruit, but he had a feeling that he'd like the guy, anyway. "Surely Mathiu will allow us a day or two, or more, to train and hunt down this material."

Master Tir seemed even more relieved as he heard this. He nodded tiredly, and it was one of those rare moments where he actually appeared to be in his age: young, inexperienced, insecured. "Right. All right," he finally said before stretching his arms. "I am kind of hungry."

"Oh, I thought you'd never mention that," Pahn sighed happily. "C'mon, Young Master. Let's see what Lester and Antonio have in store for us, I am starving."

Master Tir laughed then; it was one of his quiet laughter, but Chapman had learned long ago that this was the closest Tir McDohl would get to 'laughing out loud.' "Oh Pahn," he said, shaking his head, "what would Cleo think of you? I'm starting to think that she's right, you know, about you and your life's mission. It's always food and nothing else for you!"

Pahn had the decency to act bashful then, earning more laughter from everyone there.

"Well, I'd better go and drop this into Rock's vault," said Master Tir, gathering the robe once more into his hands and folding it neatly. "Thank you so much for your help, Chapman - I'll come again sometime after dinner, if that's all right with you. Some of our new recruits still need better armory."

"Of course, anything, sir," said Chapman, smiling.

"See you guys at dinner," said the not-quite man, the leader of the Liberation Army, as he nodded to Chandler and Jabba, before walking away.

first: something nerdtastic; second: something creepy

1. Nerdtastic

I LOLed hard at this. Did you? xD;

Found it on Hank Green's tumblr.

2. Creepy

This Man.

CREEPY, I TELL YOU. I got chills when I read about it, and I was surfing the net late at night.

So this is basically what This Man is:

In January 2006, a patient in New York told her psychiatrist that she often dreamt of a man who would give her advice on personal life. This patient later managed to draw a picture of this man (that's what she called the man in her dreams) and gave it to her psychiatrist.

The portrait lay forgotten on the patient's psychiatrist's desk for a few days until another different patient saw it. He told the same psychiatrist that he, too, had often seen this man in his dream. He referred to the guy as This Man.

Intrigued, the psychiatrist distributed the picture to her colleagues who were working on patients with recurring dreams. Later, four patients admitted that they have seen This Man before in their dreams, but none of the four patients knew who he was, and none of the four patients were related to each other in any way.

Now, around 2,000 people from around the world had admitted that they've seen This Man in their dreams. Nothing connects these 2,000 people to each other except for This Man.

O_o

I'm creeped out, aren't you?

Idk if this is some hoax or anything, but nonetheless, I'M CREEPED OUT. SUPER CREEPED OUT.

Google it, the picture of This Man is somewhere there.

I'm astonished that they don't know.

So I just decided to upload a picture of me on my GaiaOnline profile, and for the heck of it, I started searching for threads discussing the hijab on GaiaOnline.

I found this thread and I'm quite surprised at how clueless people are when it comes to the hijab. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, since, well, no one can understand everything, but still. I'm kind of surprised.

So the thread's title was, "If I were a Muslim girl who has to wear a hijab..." and the poster says

"I would shave my head. What's the point of having hair on top of my head if no one can see it? I don't understand why Muslim girls who have to wear the hijab don't just shave off their heads."

And here are some of the replies (all from different users):

"Maybe they enjoy having hair, even if they have to cover it."

"Islam heavily promotes shaving. IDK why hair on the head would be excluded."

And then a genius pops in after googling something and says,

"Okay, according to this site, they can cut their hair but they can't shave it."

Then the conversation went on:

"I was just thinking about this and I would hate to be a Muslim girl, because I love to have long hair. I'd leave it long, longer than the hijab. ^_^ "

"In hot countries, the hijab is made of lighter stuff, so it'll probably just slide off. They probably love their hair."

"Yeah, it's weird, my sister wears the scarf and sometimes gets a haircut, and I ask her what's the point, no one will see it? She said they like to look nice since they don't wear the scarf at home."

And then of course an over-sensitive person who's not capable of a civilized discussion pops in and says,

"Wow, you people are so racist it isn't even funny! I wear a hijab and the point is to preserve my self-respect. RESPECT, something none of you have. Seriously, before you start trash-talking about a religion or culture, why don't you get your facts straight first and actually LEARN."

Then blah blah blah, some arguments over this and then there's this little exchange between two users:

"I'm a Muslim, but wearing the hijab is not required. It's a choice and having several cousins who do wear the hijab, they tell me they keep their hair to make them feel good about themselves and for their husbands. And when they're with other Muslim girls they can pretty much dress up sexily and do their hair and stuff."

"So Muslim girls who wear the hijab in public places can take it off when they're alone with other girls?"

"Yeah, pretty much, as long as there are no men. They can dress up like prostitutes, too, if they want."

And more questions and assumptions and opinions:

"Don't they take it off every so often? It would suck to keep wearing it while you sleep. I mean, damn."

"I think it's because they like their hair and they would feel weird without them..."

"(They don't shave it off) because they wanna feel pretty, like any woman does."

"IDK, I feel sorry for them when it's hot outside and they wear the hijab and the long dress thingy."

And then the thread dies. I wanted to put in my two cents, but the thread's been dead for a year now, so. Yeah. If I could say a word or two, though, I'd tell them that:

1. The concept of covering up in Islam doesn't only involve covering the hair. I think most of them in that thread doesn't understand this. Even if a Muslim woman shaves off her hair, she still has to wear the hijab to cover her bald head, neck, ears, etc. It's not the hair, it's the head, and, well, your entire body except your face and hands.

2. Muslim women can't shave their hair. Look what happened to Sharifah Amani the last time she was bald. I mean, srsly u gais, come on.

3. No, it's not optional. Who told you that? xD

4. No, we don't keep it on all the time, we take it off when we sleep, lol.

5. You can have long hair and still wear the hijab. I know a girl who once grew out her hair past her knees (kan sistel, kan kan kan~ xD).

So yeah. I'm just slightly amused right now~

Finish the song!

Update~?! XD

Yeah, hi there. Blogging just for the sake of updating. So I've finished my exams, and am now currently on a, umm, very long holiday. I've got a long list of what to do and stuff, but I haven't quite started anything yet. Here's the list of things to do:

1. Study for MUET
2. Study for PMR
3. Clean spare room
4. Finish playing "Grasswalk"
5. Reactivate GaiaOnline Quest Thread
6. Finish 20 books by the end of 2011
7. Drive
8. Clean shared bathroom
9. Fix the grammar and spelling of BTQ book

I keep putting off MUET all these years, but I'm taking it next March. I'm kind of nervous about it to be honest, since I didn't really follow any English classes back in UIA. I'm especially nervous about the listening and speaking tests. D:

And yeah, "study for PMR." xD I'm not the one sitting for that exam, obviously - it's Ujai. I haven't really started anything yet, because each time I flipped through the books, I'd get...bored. xD

I should start driving again. In fact, I think I'm driving Ujai to school today~

Afterwards, I'm gonna finish "Grasswalks." YEAH.

Umm. Okay, BYE.

Thank you, Anonymous Nerdfighter.

You made me smile a lot today. Above is a picture of a note I found in my copy of "Paper Towns" (well, technically it's my sister's, since she bought it through Amazon.com).

It's a simple note, but it made me happy today - and I've had a tiring day! The note says, "Reading this book will decrease World Suck. Nerdfighters.com."

You see, this note made me super-duper happy because I live in Malaysia, where it's kinda difficult to find another Nerdfighter - there's a Facebook page for Malaysian Nerdfighters, and that's pretty much it. Maybe it's just that I haven't managed to find a Malaysian Nerdfighter yet....

Anyway, whatever it is - I wasn't expecting to get a Nerdfighter note since my sister bought it online (as mentioned earlier). I thought it's only possible to get these notes in library books or in books purchased directly from a bookstore - not online - but clearly this isn't the case~ :D

I was leafing through the book since the upper corner or the pages were kinda folded (and I disliked that, D: ), so while I unfolded the corners, I flipped through the pages - and I found the green note! I immediately smiled~

I was reading the book after my 3-hour class - which started at 8am, on MONDAY! - so I was kinda tired and sleepy, and I still had another four hours of classes later that day. I was feeling rather unenthusiastic about going to class (chemistry, then maths), so needless to say, the note cheered me up A LOT.

So, thank you, Anonymous Nerdfighter who posted that note in one of the many copies of John Green's Paper Towns. You've made me smile and you're the reason I managed to survived my Monday classes. :D

Now Imma go read the book before continuing my chemistry revision (I just finished revising the haloalkanes topic - next up: alcohols and carbonyl compunds! What fun~! xD)

NERDFIGHTERS FTW!!
